What is Risk Assessment in Machinery Safety?

3. Risk Reduction & Safety Measures (Mitigation)


Based on the risk evaluation, implement protective measures using the Three-Step Method outlined in ISO 12100:2010:

1️Inherently Safe Design – Modify the design to eliminate hazards (e.g., enclosing moving parts).

2️Safeguarding & Protective Measures – Use safety guards, interlocks, and emergency stops.

3️User Information & Training – Provide safety instructions, warnings, and user manuals.

4. Verification & Validation

Confirm that the implemented safety measures effectively reduce risks to an acceptable level. This

includes testing, simulations, and compliance checks with relevant ISO and CE marking standards.


5. Documentation and Compliance


Maintain a detailed Risk Assessment Report as part of the Technical File, essential for CE marking compliance under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The report should include:

✔ Identified hazards and risk levels

✔ Implemented risk reduction measures

✔ Conformity assessment results
